mountainart2 hour(s) ago Razz, yes, now I remember Paul, an engineer at bves mentioning that . yet california aqmd agency lets vehicles which live in big bear have lower emissions standards, precisely because our mountain topography is much less susceptible to the down the hill air quality issues hence also the 3000 foot altitude exemption where above that you can use wood fireplaces/stoves. reveals the hypocritical and inept govt agency rules.
We went with a dual system of multiple wood stove/peltier to power/heat our home we are building, off grid capable for a whole season if needs be. then room zonal rv propane furnaces to supplement during the hours we are asleep so we don't have to continually refill hardwood.
Therese2 hour(s) ago Has anyone come up the 38 today from Redlands to Big Bear City? Ca DOT and Google maps are showing it partially closed.

holeinbow19 hour(s) ago Speaking of inverters, make sure when you get one that its big enough. I have an 800 watt one on my truck and it likes a run of 1/0 wire for a supply and ideally 3-4 batteries to feed it. Most heaters typically draw 800 to 1200 watts. The little inverter i have for camp lights and such is 400 watts, plenty for most light duty uses but it doesnt have the oomph for a heater.
I might add that an electric blanket typically doesnt play nice with an inverter.
Long underwear, union suits, onesies, good wool slippers and a nice thick full length robe have gotten me by a few winter power outages, not to mention the woodstove. This year i need new down covers as the chihuahuas wrecked a couple...
