@SBCOUNTYFIRE Just after 4:20 this morning, San Bernardino County Fire responded to a residential structure fire in the 30,300 block of Desert Rose Road in the community of Lucerne Valley.
The sole occupant, an adult male, stated he awoke to a popping sound, opened his bedroom door, found heavy fire and immediately exited the structure.
As firefighters began their attack, light ammunition stored in the home began to cook off and can be heard in the video.
No injuries were reported, and the cause is under investigation.
County fire was assisted by the Apple Valley Fire Protection District and CalFire - San Bernardino/Inyo/Mono unit. More Info: [Click Here]
There were a lot of people onshore and on the lake waiting for the drone show. We were listening to KBHR too. We checked the sponsored website and social media and there was no cancellation announcement. About 9:15 KBHR played 20-30 second excerpts from songs back to back, which seemed potentially the planned drone show music. Still a good crowd waiting at 10pm. Even a bad sponsor or a bad contracted drone company should think to/find a way to announce the cancellation. I’d prefer fireworks too, but was giving the drones a chance. Sadly looking it up, it seems there are often times these drone shows are “no shows”.
Possibly KBHR pre-programmed the announcements to automatically broadcast, and no one was live at the station to announce the cancellation. But the event coordinator should've stepped up and let people know that the drones wouldn't fly. An uncomfortable announcement to make, but ultimately way more respectful than making people wait around for nothing. Thoughtlessness reigned supreme (a growing phenomenon with events, unfortunately).
KBHR announced twice that the show was starting soon, and then nothing was mentioned about a cancellation. Very disappointing all around. Maybe just stick with fireworks next time...a decent pyrotechnics team can avoid issues due to a little rain.
HIB: that's sad to hear - another example of myopic event comm failure. Clearly SOMEONE knew of the drones' soggy fate early on, and (had they been thoughtful) could've dispatched a Lake Patrol boat to alert the flotilla.
We waited on station with a full load of passengers for almost two hours. Called in and It turns out the drone array...got wet and never flew. Why was the array allowed to get soggy?! Whole lotta disappointed people...
