When i was stationed at Norton AFB in early 1980s we did some of our alpine trng in the San G Wilderness. Mostly x country skiing with them ancient skis that used different waxes for conditions. Snow shoeing, snow caves & trenches. Avalanche etc.

For bigger team training we used Park West in UT and local mtns with army rangers pulling them heavy ass yaks around. Snowmobiles etc

Thd USAF actually had a snowmobile training at Artic Cat. My roomie lucked out a drew that course. He ended up in AK with a solid background in winter ops.

From my perspective, at one year shy of 50 years in Forest falls. I’m glad that San Gorgonio never became a ski resort. The loss of Tosh’s Tarn would have been a major and complete shame. It’s an amazing place.
