Illegal Campfires

Wow! This is scary. While I realized the number was up, I didn't realize it was up 270% over last year. From today's LA Times:

On Saturday, there were a group of young adults on a vacant lot across the street from us. I was outside doing some yard work. All of a sudden I see a BIG puff of blue smoke and one of the girls screaming “Put it out, put it out!” I ran back into the house and called the fire department. Within 5 minutes city, county and forestry were here. I waited to hear from them what happened. Well, it was a gender reveal party! The blue smoke to reveal the baby’s gender. I was embarrassed but the firemen said, don’t be! They were trespassing on private property! The property is for sale and is posted NO trespassing! We would rather roll on something like this, than to actually have something get out of control.
This is a 10 acre lot. There are many people that we see trespassing on the acreage around us. With their kids, dogs, keeps and cars. It has become out of control. Same thing in the forest with all the fires. Campgrounds are full on weekends so many people think they can just camp anywhere and have campfires. I feel it is all due to COVID. The number of people here all week long is crazy. People doing what ever they feel entitled to do. I am surprised our town has not been burnt to the ground. Thank you Firemen for keeping us safe from the entitled people!

270% is insane....Fire Risk is Extremely High right now too. SMH.

Thanks KK for doing what you did! I have a bunch of those for emergency use, on a paved road or street, not in dry brush. They are basically an incendiary device that smokes, not a smoke machine with no fire. For anybody to use one and not know what it is, is asinine. Especially during extremely hot and dry conditions, or in any condition for that matter. They are illegal, just as fireworks are in/near the forest.
