Has anyone received a weed abatement notice this year?
Indiana Jones, Thu Aug 27 2020, 09:34PM

I usually get a weed abatement notice every year. This year I did not receive one. Are they not being mailed out this year because of the pandemic? Thanks!

We have seen some, mostly moonridge, bear city area, couple in BBL but seems sporadic and here and there. Best to go ahead and do what you know needs to be done even without the notice.

I received one back in July for a 20' by 20' area of thin weeds around 10" high. My property is very visible from HWY 189, so make meeting a quota ? Also received one last year for trees being too close together. Many I planted 20 years ago to form a wall from the road.

what did they make you do with the trees too close together? Did they give you the measurement that equals too close?

One thing I wish the county would do, is physically walk around behind the homes/structures!
They tend to drive up and down the road and if the front looks good they will move on, all the while there is a ton of growth behind the house/structure...
Gives the irresponsible owners a pass of which several live near us!

No notice, but the weeds around the house looked bad so had them all cut. Now if the new neighbors would do the same I would rest easier.

In the training/info classes the fire departmen/county recommends for a grown man to not be able to stretch his arms apart and touch two trees at the same time. So baically 6ft is what they have been working with. Then obvously they look at the health of the tree and if overgrown. Have had a number of places that needed to be thinned out because stuff 'grew' over the last 20-30 years. Who would have thought that little 5ft blue spruce christmas tree would end up over 40ft tall

We got a notice - but, not for the weeds. I caught them walking the road during inspection and they were like "Oh yeah, you guys are fine - But the house needs the number repainted to contrast so that we can see it. So we did it that day - knowing that they will look at that on the 2nd walk thru. (catching the guy this year was a godsend - a neighboring property has a ton of trash and weeds - but, because of the fence versus the actual property line - they always think it's our violation. We explained and this was the first year in like - forever,, that we didn't get a weed notice)

Yes they did, Trees 4" and larger were ok, smaller needed to be cut if less than 9' from another. All trees needed to have lower branches trimmed to 6 from the ground so someone could walk under. Dead trees cut down. Pine needles and leaves no more than 4" thick. Our issue were the trees being too close.

I only wish the forrest department would apply the same proper forrest management to our BLM lands and national parks and clear dead trees and allow selected logging instead of giving these fires more fuel to burn

Grasses need to be 4"or less in length. Trees within 30 feet of any structure of improvement need to be irrigates, trimmed up minimum 6" from ground, and dead material removed from tree. All non-decorative native vegetation not irrigated within 30 feet of structures needs to be removed. From 30 feet out to 100 feet/property line, reduced fuels allowed. 30 feet between trees and brush, trees limbed up 6 feet from ground and all ladder fuels removed. And yes, must have VISIBLE ADDRESS from street view.

The missing address on a cabin is one that I have never understood, or the one that is hidden behind a tree or up in the eaves painted the same color as the cabin.

Grizzly GMama posted the county's map for abatement inspections in chatbox. Thx!

Interesting new happening today. Stopped in to open one of our caretaking cabins in Sugarloaf and found a county FH Abatement notice laying on the deck. Needless to say, my hackles were up on max as this yard is near perfect all the time. Took a moment and read it. It is a Notice of Defensable Space Inspection. Have never seen such and item. And why now after all the trouble of the county going digital?? Anyway, no violation so maybe a public service gambit, but county non-contact, again, makes no sense. But government has to waste money so why not with the Fire Hazard Abatement program. SMH once again.

We're lucky. We have an automatic weed abatement service. It's called an un-fenced lot in Erwin Lake. Unfortunately, it also comes with random reports of completion and automatic trash can inspection on Tuesdays.
