Arkansas black apple

I have an apple tree I'd like to transplant that is about 2-3 years old. what are the chances of survival, and when is a good time to attempt? if viable, anyone have a referral?

I would say asap unless the tree has blossoms or leaves.
life force in early Spring is very powerful. Otherwise wait until the tree is dormant. Regardless get as much of the root material as you can and be sure to dig a large diameter hole. Full with a good compost and mix with the soil that the tree has been growing in.
Other opinion anyone?

Whoops, didnt put it in while dormant, storebought tree. It didnt do much its first year but didnt die either. I think itll put on some good growth this year, apples are still a couple years away...

Best time, that I have heard, is to wait till fall to plant or transplant. I have an apple, pear, plum, nectarine and cherry tree doing great but if we have late spring freezes, all fruit is lost except the apple and pear.

If it freezes in late spring, all fruit is lost including apples and pears. Two and three years ago that happened, just...no fruit anywhere up here. Last yesr was a bumper crop...

The tree flowered last year but that was it. It just started to show buds last week. maybe I should wait till it's dormant in fall?

That would be your best bet.
Gives the tree all winter to send out roots.

Be sure to stake the tree. i have had saplings downed by wind here in Erwin Lake

Very nice!

Here in ID our Granny Smith all got worms but our Gala's are delicious. We have a boat load of peaches and pears too. For just planting last year we are pleased. Santa Rosa Plums all fell off early.

Sounds like you have a well-rounded orchard already! Nice!

Last year, I had a bumper crop of apples enjoyed by bear, coyote, fox and rabbits. This year, there's not an apple to be seen. Is that due to the extra cold May weather we had? Fawnskin location.

Our apple trees in Fawnskin had tons of flowers on both trees until we got the snow on Memorial Day weekend. That pretty much killed the flowers before they got to pollinate and thus we have no apples this year.
