SCANNER AND REALTIME DATA OUTAGE
SCM ALERT🚨, Wed Oct 03 2018, 06:33PM

SCM Members:
The live scanner and realtime data (Incidents, Roads, Drive Times, Weather, etc) will be down for maintenance this Saturday, October 6th from 10am to 3pm. Maintenance on the computers, radio, and power infrastructure is needed as well as the integration of better backup power and generator support during extended power failures. The socalmountains.com website will remain functional during the outage (without all of the realtime info).

Thanks!
-Craig

All work has been completed. The computers, scanners, and other equipment that help keep SCM up to date is now on a 1+ hour UPS backup system. There is also a generator tied in that can manually be engaged in the event of a long term power outage.
Some other things that came out of this work:
1. The background HUM on the live Big Bear Scanner has been removed by using better interfacing cards and cabling.
2. The Road Conditions page is now complete (v1.1) and gathers realtime data from CalTrans, CHP, and Google to provide you the latest information on traffic, closures, chain requirements, road construction, etc. This data is updated in near real-time (every 15 minutes).

I feel confident that the setup is ready for Winter and whatever it throws at us! (I hope it throws a lot!).

Thanks,
Craig

Wow! Sounds like a lot of work. Thanks for doing this so we can keep informed no matter what the situation.

Craig, be careful what you wish for - it's already been snowing in Montana!
