With all the recent installations, I know we'll see plenty of cool pictures from Ben's webcams. I'm starting this thread so we can share the pictures that we like here.
Last night's sunset from the new Baldwin Lake cam:

I love the webcams. Would love to see a mobile one. Would be fun to ride with cammy out in the woods. Butler peak would be the best place for one that could rotate. Would be neat to have an ocean view, or to see into Mexico, and a great shot of the valley. My view of San Jacinto is about the same but from a lot farther away. If that one rotates you can get another San G cam
I'd love to put a webcam up at Butler Peak! I've even tried to think of a way to just take something up there on the days we staff the tower. But the only way I can think of to accomplish that is to use my cell phone and I really don't want to tie it up all day while we're in the tower. And I'm certainly not leaving it up there when we're not in the tower! The best way I can think of to have a webcam up there when we're there is to use one of my old phones (that's actually what's taking these pictures: [Click Here]). But I need an automated way to send the pictures from the old phone to my current one so it can send the pictures out on the internet. I think I'd need to use Bluetooth to send the images from one phone to the other. But in my searching, I can't find an app that will automatically send the pictures every 10 minutes or so. Then I'd probably need another app to automatically find the images on my new phone and upload them to the internet, again, automatically.
Too much of the time, I don't have a decent cell signal out in the forest.

someday they will have it. I would think the FS would go for it so they could see first hand. As for now a gopro would be the best way but then not live.

Cammy, is there cell signal at the top of the tower?
I love all the webcams..

We've had them up on Bertha Peak in the past, not Butler, I may have mentioned that one in the past. Cammy is there power at Butler? I know Bertha there is as we had a cam up there for the X-Games @ Summit and shot the signal down.

How much power do they need? It shouldn't take a lot in solar panels to run it. Of course if it can't be isolated after every thunderstorm it would have to be replaced. FS should be happy to have it if they can control it's direction when they need to. A good camera with magnification could almost replace a spotter plane during fires

Depending on which side of the tower you're on. On one side, I get fast 4G signal. On the other side, there's not even enough signal to receive a phone call.
Here's the view looking toward the dam from Gold Mountain:

my bad. never realized how much alike they were. Had I had blown it up I probably would have caught it. I have a lot more from Gold mountain then Bertha most of those were of the fireworks one year. Not the best place to watch from. For some reason they are better looking up at then down at
It really does! I sure miss living out there. The high clouds have made for amazing sunrises and sunsets the last few days... One more from this evening.
The wire on the upper right is there to reinforce my weather station. On the lower left is part of my scanner antenna. If I took the wide angle lens off the camera those might disappear, but then the view angle wouldn't be as wide.
Oh, and thanks!

Might I suggest you relocate the camera to the end of the ridge on the house located just adjacent to you on the north? From there we may get a good glimpse of Peru. If you do decide to move it make sure R has a camera ready.

Wow. That second one is awesome!
Thanks! Pretty rare to be socked in like that, with rain and the sun shining through all at once. Stars really have to align to get that shot! Thank you Toshiba!
Apparently I'm spoiled, living in this part of the world, because I find completely blue skies boring. So I enjoyed seeing the clouds around yesterday and I saved some images off the webcams:

That is one happy forest right about now. Hopefully this gave us a couple inches to the lake... Only need about 20 more of these storms.
Interestingly, I went across Grout Creek this afternoon and it looked like no water had flowed into the lake in that creek. The rain must have fallen gently enough to soak in and not run off, which is good for the forest!

Does the lake receive any replenishment from subsurface flow?
The sunrise that same morning was pretty awesome in Utah as well!

Great picture are you on your way back up here? I just saw on the news last night that we have a big high pressure system that is keeping the snow away. We may set a record for the most consecutive days in Dec without snow. They said the next chance looks like the 19th.

Will be driving up in a few weeks. Kids had flurries yesterday in Meridian. High pressure here as well and Santa Ana winds DTH.

Thanks! Was on the way back to CA - Made a quick trip up for Thanksgiving - flew up on Thanksgiving, left the following Sunday. If last year up there was anything close to normal - going that long without snow will seem like forever for y'all!!

Ya last year at this time I was working everyday plowing snow. They say we are suppose to get about 100 inches this winter. I guess it's gonna be late. We also set a couple records this summer. Most consecutive days with out rain and the most days 90+. Crazy weather everywhere. You guys be careful with the winds and fires. My mom and sister live in Ventura. My sister has been told to evacuate 3 times so far and a cousin of mine lost her house.

Sorry to hear that Cornbread. Really bad down here right now.
Time lapse of images taken every minute from my webcam looking southwest from Fawnskin, CA showing clouds and rain on July 11, 2018. Heavy rain (1-2+") fell just west of the camera's location while nearly 2/3" of rain fell at the camera's location over the course of the time lapse.
Pretty bright up on Bear Peak tonight under the full Moon!

I drove up last night and the moonlight was wonderful, especially where it reflected off the snow still clinging to the bluffs along Arctic Circle. Nice shot.

Had to toss this photo up, too good to pass up! And so ends day 1 of monsoon season in Socal!
Experienced some impressive rainfall totals out there today!
Shay Meadow(east valley) received nearly a half inch (.47") with over three quarters of an inch (.85") in Sugarloaf to Moonridge at 1.15", lesser amounts west.
Possible repeat tomorrow and throughout the week!

Pretty shot, yes, lots of traffic, but what you're seeing is actually the lights on Snow Summit!
