Anyone know if the road to the Butler Peak fire lookout has re-opened? Thanks!

It is still closed to vehicle traffic. They are still removing trees in the area. I doubt it will be open this year, but not sure of that fact.

Your welcome. I'm in that area all the time.
The road is closed to the public, but the lookout should be staffed on certain days. R and Cammy would know better as the volunteer up there.

The Forest Service has finally reopened 2N13 (Snow Slide Road) between Fawnskin and Green Valley Lake after having the road closed for 7 years since the Butler 2 Fire. Note, however, that the spur road to Butler Peak Lookout (2N13C) is still closed to vehicle traffic. At this time, we don't know if 2N13C will open this year or not.

Yup. They have opened the first gate, but not the second. There are still dead trees falling close to the tower. Currently the tower is not being staffed. Part of the road is torn up from winter, and it hasn't been graded yet.

I rode 2N13 on my dual-sport motorcycle on Saturday from the Fawnskin area to GVL and it was nice having the road open again though I can confirm that it looks like there is a lot of logging going-on in the area. The road got a bit rougher just past the spur road to Butler Peak, including one small water crossing but all in-all it's not too bad. There is one overlook close to GVL where it's easy to see how much damage the fire did, however it is nice to see how well the underbrush is doing. I also saw many small streams of water crossing the trail which, in the middle of this drought, was nice to see.

I'm hoping that 2N13C gets re-opened sometime this summer.

Anyone know if the road situation has changed? We would love to take Grandpa up to see and the hike makes it a no-go.

Nope. It's still closed. It sustained some new damage with the last big rain storm, plus the standing dead trees in the last quarter of a mile of road still need to come down.

Thanks for the info, Lumber Jill…. I sure do miss being able to drive up to Butler's Peak and looking out from there.

The Fire Lookouts are opening the tower this weekend to be staffed for the summer on days when Lookouts are available. If I hear anything about opening the road to the public, I'll share it here.

Web says "permanently closed"

Discovery Center said "Might be closed"

I don't have any info, but my guess is that it might be permanently closed. Sorry to be a smart ass but I had to do it.
If it did permanently close that would really suck
