I just received this query from a co-worker.

"Can you tell me a few "nice" but not too expensive hotels in Big Bear Lake near Pine Knot Ave and Village Drive?

We plan to go to the Gunfight Comp there on Aug. 1. Thanks!"

Since it's been a while since I've had to rent something, I figured I might ask this learned bunch for their suggestions. Fire away.

Not really, but they ended up just taking a place at Nottingham's.

If anyone you know is looking for a luxury vacation rental, my friend owns Big Bear Escapes. She's the best in town. bigbearescapes.com.

Sometimes it is hard to figure out who your true friends are. Other times they just show up and shine!

a bit late to the party.. you don't need the waiver to ride the sky chair if you are walking. Only bike riders need the waiver. The walk down is a different path this year and steeper.
