Just a quick side thought I see some of the cans sitting out on the street. I would put the existing crews throwing 2 regular cans per house vs crew using the new machine and cans. I would bet on the the crew doing the 2 cans moving more quicker. Kind of a Paul Bunyan race and the outcome would be the old way would out do the new. I've seen these guys crank when they need to and there is no way that machine would keep up. Again, how is this 'savings'? And when will the crew be by to put my curb in so I have a place to put my new bin against out in the street???? They showed curbs in the video so they MUST be going to give us curbs also

Seriously though folks, whom ever at CSD that signed off on this and thought is was going to be a beneficial program for the locals (not just the CSD) needs to go back to 1st grade and study spacial relationships. You know, triangle wont fit in the square hole thing . No way that new can is the same as 2 regular cans. Maybe if I was throwing out just liquid each week but trash doesn't always fit nicely together like a Tetras game. Hmm, something the millennials might excel at?? As such, this person needs a 2x4 up the side of the head, then if a paid employee, FIRED, and if an elected official, RECALLED. 2 cans, I might be a little more on board but I am on 'flat' ground so not to bad. My big complaint is the amount that I will have to now take myself to the landfill each week. Like I have time for that crap. If I was still living up on Villa Grove, I would be more livid with the thought of having to place this monster can on a hillside with no curbs or easement.

Each week this valley gets to be more and more like a frikkin clown car.

Agreed. After comparing the volume of the new bin to my existing cans, this is a reduction in volume by 1/2 or more. Guess I'll keep my old cans to make it easier to take the excess (that won't fit in the new bin) to the transfer station (with all that free time I have).

just got off the phone with CSD, asked them about elderly being unable to move full single bin, and they said that if you are handicapped, you can apply for a smaller can.

Since smaller can is less volume than the previous allotments of 3 cans, I asked then do we get two cans to equal previous volume of trash pickup allowed, and she said, "No, you only get one can" I then asked if we then put the overflow in bags or an old can next to the new small bin to equal the previous allowed volume, and she said "No, that is not allowed, you have to take it to the dump." So I asked how does an elderly person who can't drive, or a handicapped person who cannot load trash into a vehicle and drive to the dump, and unload, will be assisted with the trash amount we are paying for, will be assisted, and she said that there will be no assistance.

I asked then if we get a smaller bin, that fits less than the paid for contractually agreed volume (via taxes) will recieve a commensurate reduction in fees, she said "No, fees stay the same". So I asked if this means trash service will equivalate to an increase in costs to elderly or handicapped homeowner and she said, "No this is not a fee increase" When I then asked her to educate me on how a reduction in amount of trash picked up for no reduction in fees does not mean more costs to homeowner if they have to then pay for an additional small(easier to move bin) to equal the new bins volume, she refused to explain, and repeated " You can use your dump card, and take the excess to the dump". So then, will the new dump cards have provision to take your weekly excess trash every week to the dump? "No, only the previous allotment of times".

They are hiding behind lawyer weasel speak, and seriously need to be called out on this overt discrimination against the elderly and handicspped, big fee lie. I plan to go to the next meeting, Lets get a group together to go, and hopefully call them out on these deliberate obfuscations and camoflauging less "service" for same fees, as well as overt discrimination against people who due to disability cannot stage the larger volume bins, yet still have to pay the same as hale citizens for half the PAID FOR volume for what it is....... If a private company pulled this on their customers, they would be sued for breach of contract, and violation of the Americans with disabilities act. We need to do the same to this new service scheme and call them out on it.

Since they do not call this a reduction in service allotment, yet refuse to reduce rates, then there is a patent bad faith issue here, and public utilities that have done this in the past have lost in court with large punitive fines as well.

I plan on calling the California ADA Offices and let them know that the CSD appears to be engaging in blatant discrimination agaimst those with disabilities, and let you know what they say.

Update: just got off the phone with ada.gov california offices.

The refusal of CSD to provide contracturally paid for volume of trash via smaller bins that elderly and handicapped can move, without a commensurate reduction of fees for less volume, or by providing extra, smaller ada compliant bins, and telling the elderly and handicapped that they have to take excess trash that does not fit in the smaller bin to the dump themselves clearly discriminates against those who are least able to go take trash themselves, and is a CLEAR violation of the Equal Access Clause of the Americans with disabilities act, as those who are able and fit enough to handle the larger bins will not have to take extra steps to get rid of the contractually agreed volumes.. The fact that they attach county taxes to pay for this puts it into a whole higher illegal and felonious level, as San Bernardino county now is a enjoined party to CSD willful ADA non compliance

(as by the phone conversations, and statements, when they were made aware of this issue, have made no indication or motion to patently rectify non-compliance, and publicly state that handicapped who cannot move 200 pound trash bins, and need the smaller bins will not be allowed same volume of trash as those who can move the larger bins.)

Was recommended to pursue, and they will be looking into this.

Any who wish more info, along with referred firm that handles these type of ADA discrimination cases, PM me and I van give the contact info of the firm that is opening case.

Nice work mountainart. Instead of complaining, you kicked the solution into gear. Hope it works out for you all. I'm not in that district so I have to cheer from the sidelines.

Don't blame me! I was left unsupervised!

Yes, thank you for the work you have put into this. We also received our “can” today. I called CSD this morning also. I was told I have no choices. Use the dump card for extra waste. Pay $266.23 a year for another can. Or pay $256.52 a month for a dumpster that, we cannot have in our neighborhood. This is BS!
At least DTH, you are given a green waste can for yard clippings. Please let us know when the next meeting is!

Hey all,
The next board meeting is at 5:00pm on Monday the 16th. I am going to try to go myself. I live off the hill and will make every attempt to be there.
I have these bins in my neighborhood here dth and it’s fine but there are many differences including the trash department moving the bins for the elderly at request, having 3 large bins for recycling, yard, and household trash and more....
This new program from the CSD is nothing more than a way for them to charge the same amount of money while offering far less than we get now...

Me too, Sportj. I just received this text. "Your ballot for the 2020 General Election was received and will be counted. Thank you for voting!".

MtnTeach - the ballot boxes aren’t third party. They are official county elections office drop boxes.

Dropped off mines directly at the post office, don't need a 3rd party. Ballottrax worked fine for me!

I dropped my ballot in the dropbox at the Crestline library a couple of weeks ago, it took about a week for ballot tracker to notify me that my ballot had been received and counted.

Yes, I was so politely informed by the Big Bear Postmaster that putting anything in the box outside is no guarantee it will get processed. They even tried to extend that non-responsibility to the box inside the PO. So basically he was telling me my mail no matter where I put it, will maybe get delivered, depending on how the post office feels that day. Amazing.
