SAN BERNARDINO – The California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) District 8 is providing an update to the public regarding the status of road closures related to the storm on February 14.

All the information below is preliminary and subject to change due to weather, further damage, material supply and other damage and repair issues that may require additional resources.

SR 243 remains closed from I-10 to Idyllwild for at least two (2) months due to extensive damage and road loss. Ames Construction is the emergency contractor for the $8 million project which is combined with SR 74 emergency work.

SR 74 remains closed from Valle Vista at Borco to Mountain Center for at least one (1) month due to road loss and storm damage. Ames Construction is the emergency contractor for the $8 million project which is combined with SR 243 emergency work.

SR 18 remains closed from Green Valley Lake Road to Big Bear Dam for at least two (2) weeks due to road loss and storm damage. Riverside Construction is the emergency contractor for the $2.5 million project.

SR 111 is partially open with one lane in each direction on the northbound direction of travel. The southbound SR 111 remains closed for at least one (1) month or longer to repair road loss and storm damage. Granite Construction is the emergency contractor for the $3.5 million project.

SR 173 from SR 138 to Twin Ranch Road remains closed due to flooding.

SR 2 remains closed from Grassy Hollow to Islip Saddle due to extreme snow conditions – there is no access from LA County.

SR 74 (Palms to Pines Highway, low desert, Anza) from Lake Hemet to Mountain Center and Idyllwild is open to RESIDENTS AND BUSINESSES ONLY. Snow play and tourism is not encouraged at this time.

SNOW LEVELS ARE EXPECTED TO RECEDE TO 1,500 FEET ON WEDESDAY AFTERNOON/EVENING AND THURSDAY FOR THE INCOMING STORM.

BRING CHAINS TO MOUNTAIN AREAS!

Snow is expected in lower elevations such as I-15 in the Cajon Pass and High Desert, I-10 through Yucaipa to Banning, and any other regions at the 1,500-foot level.

THE MOTORING PUBLIC, RESIDENTS AND BUSINESSES ARE ADVISED TO CHECK ROAD CONDITIONS AND CHAIN CONTROLS BEFORE THEY GO. USE CALTRANS QUICKMAP AT [Click Here]. FOLLOW US ON TWITTER AND FACEBOOK @CALTRANS8 TO MONITOR CONDITIONS DURING AND AFTER HOURS.

Caltrans advises the public not to pass any road closed signs and obey all commands from CHP, Caltrans and contractor crews for public safety. Turn Around Don’t Drown when roadways are flooded or impassible.

Any new information will be released once available. Motorists are reminded to use caution, slow for weather conditions and use headlights while driving. STORM RELATED ROAD CLOSURES IN DISTRICT 8
INFORMATION FOR MOTORISTS

SAN BERNARDINO – The California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) District 8 is providing an update for emergency projects and storm related road closures.

SR 38 remains closed until this afternoon between Angelus Oaks and Lake Williams due to extreme snow removal. Information will be provided via Caltrans District 8 Twitter and Facebook @caltrans8 when it reopens.
SR 243 from I-10 and SR 74 from Hemet to Idyllwild will remain under a long-term closure until further notice for storm damage repairs. The detour to Idyllwild is SR 74 from Palm Desert or Anza to SR 243 into Idyllwild. Below is the California Highway Patrol (CHP) press release with detailed information regarding access to Idyllwild.
SR 18 is closed from Green Valley Lake to Big Bear Dam for approximately two weeks for storm damage repairs. Snow Valley Ski Resort will remain closed until the opening of SR 18.
SR 111 is open with one lane in each direction between Overture Drive to Tramway Drive south of I-10 until further notice.
SR 2 remains closed from Grassy Hollow to Islip Saddle – between Los Angeles County and Wrightwood. Mountain High Ski Resort is open for business. Access to Wrightwood on SR 2 is available from SR 138 from Palmdale or Cajon Pass.

Caltrans advises the public not to pass any road closed signs and obey all commands from CHP, Caltrans and contractor crews for public safety.

If you are traveling to mountain areas this weekend – BRING CHAINS – chain control will still be activated in mountain regions. You will not be permitted during chain control without chains. PLEASE DO NOT BLOCK ROADWAYS FOR SNOW PLAY OR CHAIN INSTALLATION! STASH YOUR TRASH (PACK IT IN PACK IT OUT) AND DO NOT TRESPASS ON PRIVATE PROPERTY.

Mountain-bound motorists should anticipate delays due to congestion. Stock vehicles with water, snacks, blankets, a charged cell phone, flashlight and a full tank of gas before going to mountain regions. Use Caltrans' “Quick Map” for current road conditions and chain requirements at [Click Here].

Getting closer...

The contractor is pouring concrete along SR-18 near Green Valley Lake. After the concrete properly settles, the asphalt will be coming in next.

We have heard so many fire alarms going off again and again in people’s homes in upper Moonridge the last few weekends. There has been no smoke smell from the burn, I assume they’re set off by moths getting into them. Your thoughts on this? Also starting a thread.
