Forgot to add, when pruning, if the branch you cut off, as close to the trunk or main branch as possible, you should brush the black tar pruning seal on the wound if it is 1/2" diameter or larger. This prevents moisture being lost as well as bugs or disease creeping in. I bought a can of the pruning seal that comes with a brush in the lid. You could buy the spray but the can is more economical. The tree will eventually seal the wound itself.

Look up easy recipes for fruit liqueurs. Basically use brandy or vodka, soak the fruit and any spices and some sugar. Turn them over daily for a week to mix the sugar. Take the fruit out after a month or so. The longer you let it mellow the better it tastes. Oh, you CAN use the fruit you remove to make ADULT cobbler. Not all the alcohol burns off so definitely adults only but tastes good!!

Making some pear liquor as we speak, only trouble is waiting for months to proof. We just picked 6 Vons bags of apples off our small tree. Picked 4 bags of french plums. Killer year for fruit. Plum jam making on the plan for tomorrow. Daughter in law made some absolutely delicious pear jam with some of our pears.

Pear Jam recipe. Daughter in law did not put in cloves or allspice, also she used 5 cups fruit to 7 cups sugar. You can use less sugar depending on how sweet pears are. Try 5 cups and taste first. She also used 5 tbs. of pectin, not the 3.

We have a friend in Little Rock but also has Arkansas black apples. She said they should be picked mid October then stored in cold storage for 2 to 3 months in this Will ripen them perfectly. Has anyone heard of this?
