I just received a TYT-MD390 w/GPS as a birthday gift. This radio is a VHF DMR device. I'm pretty new to radios and have no idea how to use it. My main goal was to listen to USFS Forest Net which i know operates on 171.47500. Beyond that little tidbit of info i am completely clueless. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Take a look at the free software called CHIRP: [Click Here]
That along with the frequency database at RadioReference [Click Here] should get you headed in the right direction.

Hey BPF, not sure if Chirp supports that radio yet. I know it has been requested as a radio to be supported but can't tell if it got implemented to support. Best to download CHIRP and see (its free). Also, you can get other software from TYT for free that should work with that radio at this link here: [Click Here]
Usually the software from these Chinese Radios is frustrating to use at best. I also own a TYT quad band mobile radio and luckily mine is supported by Chirp so I am not forced to use the manufacturer software. But, for these radios, its better than nothing as programming by keypad can be super time consuming. If you just need 171.475FM receive, then it might be a much easier story to hand program it. Let me know how it goes. It looks like a really cool radio!

Winter can leave now... Lets try to get above 50 degrees???

FawdDog: There are no more planned closures of the Arctic Circle (hwy 18). This is primarily due to the cooler weather which is not favorable for paving operations.

Ford was shooting a commercial at Bear Mountain over the weekend, not sure what was being shot on HWY 38. Sounds like an unrelated shoot Stars.... But everyone's done, for now.

I heard from a neighbor that Onyx Summit was closed sporadically yesterday because Ford was filming a commercial. Anyone hear the same thing?
