CalTrans Announces Highway 18 Closure
in Community News, Ticker, Traffic / by Ty Steele / on February 25, 2017 at 3:01 am /

CRESTLINE, CA –Southern California has been hit by several major winter storms in the past month, and the San Bernardino mountain areas have experienced significant precipitation and snow events as a result. These storms produced heavy rock flows that damaged an existing rock barrier on State Route 18 (SR-18). The Department of Transportation (Caltrans) is scheduled to begin emergency repairs to the slope drape and rock fence on SR-18 located 0.7 miles east of the SR-18/SR-138 separation near Crestline.
The $600,000 Director’s Order emergency contract has been awarded to Powell Constructors, Inc. of Fontana, who will begin work on Monday, February 27.
Work hours will be Monday – Thursday from 8:30 a.m. until 4:00 p.m.:
Shoulder Closures – Shoulder Work
No lane closures Monday, 2/27/17 thru Wednesday, 3/1/17
Cable Net Installation
Full Closure of SR-18 Thursday, 3/2/17 thru Thursday, 3/9/17
A complete closure of SR-18 between — Crest Forest Drive and the SR-138 cut-off — will occur for up to five days, for safety purposes, from Thursday, March 2 to Thursday, March 9. Detours will be posted at that time.
The project is scheduled to be completed in April, 2017.
All work is contingent upon the weather.
Caltrans thanks motorists for their patience and cooperation as they work to repair storm damages.

Yea, I too was thinking it was the Arctic Circle area! I had to come up 38 this evening and it wasn't looking very good when I did, around 5pm

Yeah Christopher a couple things, the merger was an April fools joke so I doubt anyone knew abought it earlier this week. We have no plans to do night skiing at Bear. We thought about it maybe 20 years ago, but it didn't really make sense then and certainly doesn't now.

I have a friend who works for Vail Resorts... and she told me about the merger earlier this week. She also told me night boarding is coming to Bear Mtn WITH MUSIC. They're planning to put speakers on the lift towers. People in Moonridge are going to love that.

Hey, there are a lot of great cams out there and Benny is key in putting a lot of them out there. The eagle cam has a really good view of the valley. If I win the snowpool, the $ goes to the robot. The true value is the lifetime membership to SCM!
