Anyone else have emergency vet services they can recommend? Please post it here, and I will stick this thread to the top of our Pets forum so we can easily access the info in a pet emergency.

We've had to use the Emergency Pet Hospital of Redlands and just want to say they were very kind and compassionate. The unfortunate part is we had to put our poor pup to sleep as he was suffering. They acted very quickly as we asked. While very sad, they offered to sedate for us to be there or just do it. We chose to stop the suffering right away. All that is to say, we hope you never need them but if you do, we recommend the Emergency Pet Hospital of Redlands.

I'm sorry to hear about that. But thank you for sharing your review of the Redlands Emergency Pet Hospital.

What would be the best way to convince our various vets/clinics to set up a rotational emergency program for w/e and holiday coverage?

I have used local (when it was available) AND Victorville.

I don't think it is going to happen for two reasons:

1) Staff availability. You need a veterinarian available to respond, and possibly also a vet tech. There may not be enough vets up here to do that, even if they take turns.

Said on-call person will be responding from home; you can be half-way to Victorville in the time it takes for them to arrive at the clinic. If an animal is so severely injured, it can't survive the trip to VV, it may not survive the wait for the local vet to respond, either.

2) Cost. If an animal needs emergency surgery, and intensive care following surgery, you will need somebody to stay with and monitor that animal for HOURS. That is costly. Whoever is on-call will also likely have to be compensated for the time they are on-call, even if there are no call-outs, so that is another expense.

The extreme expense to provide that service will prevent many pet owners from taking advantage of local veterinary ER services. When it WAS available, it cost about four times what it costs to drive to Victorville and use that animal ER.

Thanks Benny. Sounds like I will be getting same plan as your mom Except I have Allstate vs Farmers for theft. I checked Travelers and Farmers and recently AAA and best rate for me is w Allstate

Thanks QuietOne. The notice doesn't have a location map, but says the work is near RS at mile post 37 and 39 wherever that is.

Thank You QuietOne, for ADVANCE notice about the upcoming full closure of Hwy 330! CalTrans rarely provides such a long-range heads-up.

I know my mom has CFP(California Fair Plan) for the fire portion of insurance for her cabin, then Farmers for theft. But it sounds like there's a difference if your on a dirt rd., vs not. I think Traveler's is still covering up here, I know people who do still have them. It's pretty confusing.

Appreciate your heads up:)

I talked with a AAA agent and they off policy through American Securities for $2278 vs my old Foremost policy of $850. I have found much cheaper plans through the use of the Fair Plan coupled with a standard insurance company such as Allstate.

FYI, according to Press Release from CalTrans, Hwy 330 will be fully closed from Sept. 9 through Sept. 23 for rock fall barrier construction. [Click Here]

EvaJ did your parents great a straight policy with AAA or did they also require a Fair plan policy?

We had them for ten years

Foremost is subsidiary of Farmers.

Is that popped that just brought the fish to Simba? Asking because again Simba is being aggressive and saying MINE!

Jul 15 : 02:43pm
Also, my Mom says Foremost is owned by AAA and the person that wrote their new policy was surprised Foremost was declining coverage up here.

I remember there was some previous discussion about insurance in Big Bear. My parents got a non-renewal notice for their place today from a company named "Foremost". They were able to get a policy with AAA. They said it's more expensive ($1061 versus $1995) but they were happy to find it.
