First post here. Looking for a scanner for the wife and I for our house in landers. Would like to hear S.B. sherriff and fire too, any suggestions? I'll probably need help setting it up too. Thanks, Pete

Welcome to SCM, Pete! I really like the Uniden BC246T handheld scanner that I have. I understand they don't make the 246 anymore though and I haven't played much with any of the successors. Whatever you look for though, you'll want to get one with trunking capabilities so you can listen to San Bernardino County Fire & Sheriff.
For frequencies, RadioReference.com has a great collection: [Click Here]
And for programming many scanners, there's free software available called FreeSCAN: [Click Here]

I hear good things about the 346xtc. It was pretty much the replacement for Cammys 246T. It is capable of picking up all of the San Bernardino traffic you speak of (The Trunk System) and it does work with FreeScan for easier programming.

Whistler 1080 or the Radio Shack 668 are both great scanners and they both pick up the latest P25 phase 1 and 2

That is what I have and it is a really nice scanner. You can program your channels with a free software program and upload them.

I love, love, LOVE my Uniden Home Patrol 2. It's much pricier, but totally worth it in the hours of time and frustration saved in programming it. I just put in a zip code of whereever I am and it programs itself, ready to go. And the large touchscreen display is really nice.

And, the Close Call feature is great. It locks on to anyone, police, fire, etc, who keys up a mic near me.

I just happened to find a Realistic Pro-34 200ch scanner at the thrift store for $13... Pretty old school, but not so old to require individual crystals .

Wow, talk about Ancient!! You should have no problem getting Forest Service, Lake Patrol, The Ski Resorts and a blob of other business frequencies. To catch the Public Service Folks (Sheriff, Fire, etc) you need a trunk capable scanner, however, they do simulcast the Fire Trunk system on 159.120 from time to time so you could catch the action there with your Pro-34 if they have the patch up and running.

Winter can leave now... Lets try to get above 50 degrees???

Yes this weekend wasn't that crazy at all for a change. Busy enough for all of the businesses to make some good money hopefully but not too busy to drive the locals crazy. The snow was amazing at both Summit and Bear. It got slightly wet yesterday at Bear but perfectly rideable

Just came down the hill via running Springs Highway 330 and not too many cars traffic moving well I remember last year it was a nightmare Presidents weekend so the lack of snow does help speed traffic long! Happy Presidents’ Day everyone
