There's been a few "reminders" of the hazards of earth movement. The C.E.R.T. training references the FEMA guidelines which should be reviewed on a regular basis.

remember, you will be on your own for at least 72 hrs, maybe more. The first item you will run out of is drinking water. Store at least 3 gall (3 days) per person, minimum. Remember to have supplies in your car and carry good walking shoes.

Be ready and be prepared

Great reminder NSA! Its been a bit shaky in our local areas this past few weeks. I am going to go ahead and swap out my backup food and water supply (its a couple years old) and re-check all of the other gear in the EQ kit.

Winter can leave now... Lets try to get above 50 degrees???

Several folks here on SCM were very active in BBVCERT in the 2010-2014 era, but then the momentum more or less came to a screeching halt. I attribute this to the turnover of the board as well as a shrinking active membership base. The local chapter also came out with fairly stringent training requirements to retain membership which for a full time working person is difficult to attain due to the number of hours required to get the certifications. It is unfortunate. We do have a couple folks that sit on the MMA (Mountain Mutual Aid) and COAD (Community Organizations Active in Disaster) teams but that doesn't have the momentum that CERT once had.

Not a whole lot, yet. There are reports of a couple spun out vehicles through Arctic Circle, but looking at the Snow Valley cam, not much has accumulated on the roads. With the temp still above freezing roads should be ok, just wet for now. As temperatures drop below freezing later tonight, expect some ice/snow develop on the roadways so travel safely if you must!

There's is another decent band of snow moving in over the next hour or two.... [Click Here]

Another wave of moisture will move through the area over the next several hours with more rain and snow showers likely. The snow level could dip to around 6,000 feet with a couple inches possible. Travel safely and carry chains just in case!

No, you're right Fawn, hopefully next year if they have more eaglets they'll do the same thing but let them public vote on them. They can vote on them with a $1 donation each or something..... Would be a great fundraiser for Friends of the Big Bear Valley!
