Please elaborate on the transition into El Nino. Is there a strength prediction? Will it be in effect this Summer?
This is the best news for us surfers and powder hounds!

Thanks in advance.

OK,
I did some online studying and found that the El Nino is in effect now and is very strong if it stays the way it is. Should be an EPIC summer waves and water temp wise as hurricanes will be a plenty with warmer then usual water down in Mex and closer to us to allow for big hurricanes and longer travel toward us.
You all know what a strong El Nino means up there! Tons of snow and water for the mountains! 20ft snowfall El Nino seasons are not unheard of! I remember riding consistent 2-4ft dumps in 1998 with 4-8ft dumps as well! I rode a 4ft dump in late May that year at Baldy! Crazy!

Here is a little clip I got out of one of the sites I studied.

However, observations of water temperature in the Pacific Ocean off the South American coast have been warming since December. In fact, according to numbers from the National Climate Data Center, this recent warming has been the second greatest amount of warming in that area since 1979. Climate experts believe that this may signal the end of the dry La Nina and a return to wetter El Nino conditions

Benny, how come your not touching this weather question? Not going to hold you to it but, could you just simply tell us what it is looking like? Thanks

La Niña conditions in the tropical Pacific have been at weak to moderate levels since around October 2011. Model forecasts and expert interpretation suggest that the La Niña is near its maximum strength and hence is likely to slowly decline over the coming months. However, beyond May, there is some uncertainty over the expected state of the Pacific Ocean, with no particular preference for El Niño, La Niña or neutral conditions. Over the coming months, National Meteorological and Hydrological Services and other agencies will continue to monitor Pacific Basin conditions to assess the longevity of the current La Niña event and the conditions most likely to follow for the second half of 2012.

So in conclusion, we are really not in for a continued La Nina which we're coming out of, nor an El Nino at this point, by all accounts we are in what would be a called a 'Normal' weather pattern, if there is such a thing; but that could change in a few months, only time will tell!

Will talk more about this with time...
