alaskajack It was not long after that time the caretaker died. My dad took over the job for a few montnths while they found someone permanent. I got to play around the area while he was doing some repairs. I remember him working on the water lines that serviced the area. I had seen the lake in the old seargant preston movies mostly and it was strange how things looked more real on film. We also drove up the back road from Boulder bay when real Williams was logging in there, and went on up to the lake. A friend and I also worked on the buildings that are just East of the dam. Over the years I was able to visit the lake many times and always had a good time. I wish it was more open to visitors today. Most of the old sets have been torn down in the years since then. I urge everyone to go up there if they get the chance. Don't argue with an idiot; people watching may not be able to tell the difference.

The Parent Trap of the early 60's also did many scenes at Bluff Lake. I was a camper there then and even got my pic taken with Hayley Mills. I think I was about 9 or 10 that year. When the movie was shown at the drive in in Boulder Bay the following summer we just HAD to go. I remember telling my mom and dad about the scene we actually got to see filmed and it made it to the actual film

I just watched a rerun of 1959 "Bonanza" episode "The Truckee Strip" with long scenes filmed at Shay Ranch. I thought it looked familiar, my family used to own some cabins and acreage adjacent to Shay's Ranch in the 50's.
