IMHO we have very few open minded people on this site!! Unfortunately they are probably 'lurking'. Speak up people!!
they wont speak up jude cause they will get attacked by the mob mentality.. happens everytime someone doesnt agree with the majority.. there are other sites to go to that will agree to disagree.. well if you stay in 1 room.. if you venture out you are on your own cause its the same over there (outside that 1 room that is) i am multi lingual, i can speak English, sarcasm and smart arse!

Now, come on, there are open minds on both sides of most issues. The problems occur when someone comes in, and states their opinion in an obnoxious and accusatory manner. There are ways to state your opinion and not attack a person or ideals that you know will rile many. This is a common denominator with some of the folks who have provoked the most reaction from others here. If you review the situations, it has been very one sided PERSONAL name calling, disrespect, as well as jumping to conclusions regarding the opinions or experiences of the people at the other end of the computer. There are some social skills lacking and it is a cookie cutter mold in each case. In fact, it could be the same person/people. And these folks ALWAYS pick a topic they KNOW will get a response...

I just don't understand this. How can people be members of a place that they don't feel they can speak their mind? Why would you want to be here? I agree that things have gotten very ugly in the political section (although it's been better lately) but we work very hard to keep things civil in the rest of the site, and I believe the members have cooperated with that very nicely. Are you telling me you still feel you can't voice your opinion?
I have lots of opinions different than what is posted on SCM, but I only post on the ones that are most important to me. I don't feel that I CAN'T voice my opinions, only that, like the rest of life, I need to pick my battles. I just don't need the aggravation of being upset over every little thing.
As for the term "mob mentality"...when the majority voices their opinion, it becomes a mob? Why doesn't EVERYONE have an equal right to voice their opinions? If you know your opinion is in the minority, shouldn't you expect more comments against your point, rather than for it? Why does that mean you're being attacked or should express it?

I can't remember a recent attack against someone who posted on anything. Usually the way it seems to go is they respond and then when someone comments back in a way they don't feel puts down there idea on merit then they respond with name calling. While most people get along it does not make it a mob. Don't argue with an idiot; people watching may not be able to tell the difference.

You're reading things into it that aren't there. No one is offended by what you said. I was concerned. There really is a difference!

I agree with R. I do not identify with a "mob" so did not consider myself a target of that word. Basically, I think that we all have a tendency to disagree about some stuff, but we overlook it for the most part because we consider ourselves family. And we treat each other with respect, knowing the differences. But when someone comes in and it causes issues, especially when they are "new" and have not had any interaction with any of us prior to logging into the political section and posting controversial topics. Seems like a "divide and conquer'" attitude. A common tactic by certain groups that would rather see the USA take a dive.
