now theres are nothing major just minor tree snags so rest easy and less than 1 ac that have been put out ..

Lightning storms passing through southern California mountains started several lightning related fires in the San Bernardino, San Gabriel, Santa Rosa and San Jacinto mountains.

Currently the fires do not pose a threat to local communities, no roads or recreational facilities are impacted. All fires unless noted are less than one acre in size.

September 14, 2011 (5 fires)

Banning - 1637 - Southside of Banning Canyon

Raywood - 1633 - Near Raywood Flats, north of Banning

Branch - 1519 - Millard Canyon north of Cabazon

Fobes - 1241 - North of SR74 near Forbes Ranch Road in Garner Valley

September 13, 2011 (9 fires)

Sawmill - 1836 - near Yucaipa Ridge, 2 miles east of Oak Glen Conservation Camp

Jump 2 - 1818 - In the Heart Bar area, east of Barton Flats

Sugar - 1716 - Sugarloaf Mountain in the Big Bear Valley

Baldwin - 1611 - Gold Mountain near Baldwin Lake in the Big Bear Valley

Thunder Mtn #2 - 1546 - Thunder Mountain, east of Mt Baldy

Thunder Mtn #1 - 1521 - Thunder Mountain, east of Mt. Baldy

A dozen years ago I was talking with an oltimer who had worked with my Grandfather.
They seemed to hasve less trouble with lightening then today, but then the forest was in much better shape. This was before any of the old burns we see today around the valley. (pre 1940)
When a strike was seen in a tree a couple guys who ride horses out and either sit on the tree untill it went out, or more often would drop the tree and put it out. No air support, no ground crews. I should have asked but I don't know of a major fire untill around 1940. Give or take a few years. I can remember when the only two burns that stood out were the big one on Skyline, and the one on 330. The next that I can remember (on our side of the hill) was Sugarloaf (started by a couple of my classmates). And then the next was the one on the Eat end of the valley that does not seem to have recovered at all.
and then cactus flats. As far as I can remember that was about it on good size fires untill the many we have had in the last 20 years or so.
But there was a lot more moisture every year and few beetle attacks. And of course logging was going on from time to time.

Don't argue with an idiot; people watching may not be able to tell the difference.

Missing PARENTS!!! Does this sweet face look familiar to anyone? He was found in the area of Big Bear Blvd and Barrett. Please call the local Sheriffs office if you do.

That is for Flight Following, meaning that the Forest Service Dispatch Center is tracking one of their aircraft via the AFF (Automated Flight Following) system.

Allen< Thanks for the update on the roads. I will stay home. Hwy 18 to Lucerne has one way traffic, Hwy 38 has construction and one-way traffic. There will probavly be a head on collision on Hwy 330 and 18 closing the road for a day or so. Thanks to the geni at CALTRANS.

Anyone know more about the list of "Road Status Changes" on Hwy 38? It's a true mystery to me at this point.

Sun Diego. The CNN report is correct and we here in Georgia are outraged. This LEO is a 7yr K9 handler and SUPPOSED to be responsible. The poor pooch was in the car in the LEO's driveway and not discovered til 9PM. Many of us are calling for his firing and animal cruelty charges filed. LEO is currently on "paid leave".

Notice, remember do not leave dogs in cars even for a little while in the sun. CNN reports a police dog was killed this way today.
