A contractor will make repairs to the existing debris flow netting on State Route 18 (SR 18) in the section known as the “Narrows” located between SR 138 and Crest Forest Drive in the San Bernardino Mountains near Crestline.

This section of the route will be closed Monday through Thursday the weeks of September 19 and September 26 from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Caltrans maintenance crews will do routine maintenance work within the closure as equipment and resources allow.

Motorists are advised to use Crest Forest Drive as the detour route around the closure.

Caltrans would like to thank the mountain drivers for their patience during this work and the necessary route closure.

It was hard to tell, but it looked like there was a basement at the school. Too much debris to be sure. The houses around it are wiped clean though.

I heard that after the 1999 tornado that went though there, they built safe rooms. I sure hope that is true.
