Thanks for posting these. I took a few with my cell phone but didn't realize the dang thing had switched to macro mode, so most of them are blurry.
I was at the airport when one of the hotshots jumped on the ridge northeast of the airport, but couldn't get a decent shot of him from the terminal building. 5 more were supposed to jump but I couldn't hang around to see them.

How did we get them? Are they not LA county leased? Also, don't they normally start the lease in late September? Good to see them however. Thanks for the pictures Bookie!
Craig, I wondered the same thing. Also the planes up there had #’s of 267 and 264 I think. Saw the coverage of the Mandeville IC yesterday and the #’s on those planes (which were identified by a PIO as Super Scoopers) were 245 and 240, what gives? Anyone got any ideas? I cant directly answer the questions, but I do know that Cy told me the super scoopers that were in big bear last week were based at san bernardino tanker base. Im not sure if they're still there now. I also know that the LA Country contract for 2 super scoopers just began in the past couple of days, after they were in big bear. One thought I have is that the forest service got ahold of the super scoopers that were up in big bear as replacements for the P3's that got canceled a while back.

The scoopers that were here have gone to Texas to help with the fires out there. Those 3 scoopers are from Arizona that the USFS have contracted for the rest of this fire season.

Cammy, Cy thanks for that. Figured you'd know. One other question are the 415’s a little larger plane? I’ve seen the ones based at Van Nuys flyover a number of times and they seem bigger than the ones in Bookie’s pictures. Maybe it is an illusion trying to judge size in a picture. nothing in life is free, it ain't about easy it's about tough

No the only thing that is different is the engines. The 215 has the old engines and the 415's have the turboprop engine's. Thats why they call them super scoopers and the 215's scoopers. Cy Phenice Nikon D90 and D60. To view all my fire photography go to [Click Here]

Thanks again Cy. Looked at them on Wikipedia, difference in size is negligible ½” in length, 1” in wingspan and 3” in height. Doubt I could see that difference.

We must have driven by just before Marty, as we passed 3 responding fire vehicles once we passed the scene.
I was paying close attention to the folks directing traffic so I didn't get a good look at precisely where we were (or the vehicles involved), but if it's the one I'm thinking of that corner is reverse banked with a fairly straight stretch leading into it (downbound); easy to come into it a little too fast (have seen lots of cars do it) and there aren't any of the arrows marking the corner ahead.
He said it was an older dark grey car against the tree and a white compact was the second vehicle but I do see that the CHP log makes no mention of a second car.
One car, off the side, looked like it might have rolled first. Two or three other cars on scene; no obvious damage so I'm not sure if they were involved. Also one 18 wheeler with a truck on it's bed also pulled over. Pedestrians out directing traffic around the wreck. I was surprised to see units from Big Bear responding. That's a long time to be trapped!
My husband just called on his way down 38. The downward traffic has been released. Most of the victims have been cleared. One car still wedged up against a tree and they are working to get someone out of that car. It was a two car head on TC.
Passed that accident 1/2 hour ago on my way up. They seemed to be working to excavate the occupant(s). Road was not closed at that time. Only half the down bound lane was blocked. Saw two units from BBC fire responding. I don't understand these types of accidents!
