So, we have this Ham Radio / Scanners Forum here, but it sure doesn't get a lot of attention.
Im curious, how many SCM members (or guests that can very quickly become members in order to post here) are Amatuer Radio Operators?

I will chime in first.

KB0RVB since 1994, 2 meters only, handheld only, Yaesu FT270R. Member of Big Bear Am Radio Club for two years. I try to remember to listen to the BBARC, CERT and ECS net call ins every week.
Without a vehicle yet I've only made it to one BBARC meeting and the annual picnic.

Just thought Id share some of my DX (out of country) contacts with you folks.
On saturday & sunday, On the 17 & 20 meter bands I made contacts in the following countrys,
Mexico, Brazil, 2 in Columbia, 2 in Argentina, Chech Republic, Barbados, The Azores, & Japan.
Pretty good weekend.
Tuesday I heard the bands were opening up. So I thought Id check out the 10 meter band. But befor I got there I stopped buy 12 meter. I made a good 5 9 (thats real good) copy with a guy in Italy.
On the 10 meter band I only made a few contacts. I wasent on the radio very long.
New Zeland, Argentina, & Australia.
Thats about it. 73 KI6SKN

Well, looks like I need to explain a few things here.
First off... You are not going to be talking on a simplex frequency around the world with a 5 watt, handheld, 2 meter, 4"antenna, radio.
The radio I made my contacts on is a Kenwood TS130SE. With 90' horizonal and 80' of vertical wire located 45' up on a tree limb with the north and south ends of the antenna up about 35'
Im running a 100 watts min. Up to 600 watts with the amp on.

If you wish to lookup my contacts.

Goto QRZ.COM (Upper left corner of site) Look up the following call signs XE1CWJ, LP1H, OK7K, 8P5A, HI3K, CU2CE, JA2FJP, HP1/IZ68RN, ZL1BYZ, LU7HW

Did you notice where these people live!

Mark is dumb as a rock.

I sent an email to them.

Guess Mark didn't get the Governor's Essential-Travel-Only-Stay-at-Home- Shelter-in-Place memo. Shame on him.

Just wondering, does the sheriff have any juristiction/influence for areas in the SBNF? I don't think so. FS staff are short-handed, but if they could actually enforce and hand out tickets (which I normally disapprove of in general), it could help curb the influx of flatlanders

brief lapse of judgement...

During normal circumstances, KTLA tries to promote tourism for BB. I don't think Mark has ever experienced how crazy snowplay areas get up here, so im just taking this as brief in judegement due to being naive.

@ Christopher & McToddy, saw the same news, they suggested bringing kids up to play in the snow, maybe build a snowman, just make sure the snowmen are 6 feet apart...REALLY? And whereare they to play? Anywhere they find snow? SMH

One has to wonder what the local news stations' stake is in directing people up the mountain.

@Christopher Yeah, I saw the same thing. I pinged @ktlanews (via 'gram), but I have no idea if my dm will be seen. But at least it's better than not attempting to provide any feedback)

That's awful they would report that Christopher

Something white on the trucks, might be snow. Bare concrete on patio. CH11 news showed bare pavement at summit parking. Still on the way Ben?
